FIRST AID: How To Save A Choking Baby

Babies are the most beautiful gift a mother has, every development is very pleasant. However, every mother must always be careful to pay attention to the safety of her baby.

Basically, babies have high curiosity, so whatever is in front of them when it looks attractive, they will put it in their mouth. If the mother or the caregiver is negligent in paying attention to the situation, it can cause your baby to choke and of course, it is very dangerous.

However, if your baby is already choking, you must immediately provide help. Here is a First Aid On How To Save A Choking Baby,

  • As soon as you see your baby choking, immediately call the emergency number for an ambulance, or have someone else call for you.
  • Next, do the treatment immediately. Carry the baby face down, then lie flat on the lap of our hands. Make sure the baby's head is lower than his feet, and that we are holding it while sitting or kneeling.

  • Support the baby's head and lower jaw with our hands.
  • Do not let us press the baby's neck, because it is dangerous.
  • Using the base of the palms, do 5 times pat on the back (between the two shoulder blades of the baby). Remember, don't just pat the baby's nape.
  • If the choking object has not come out, and the baby is still having difficulty breathing, then immediately stretch the baby on his back and support his neck with your hands.
  • Use our two fingers (index and middle finger) to press the baby's chest 5 times with a depth of about 1.5 to 2.5 cm, such as when doing compression on CPR.
  • If your baby is still having trouble breathing, look at the baby's mouth, is there anything blocking his breath or not? if any, remove the item immediately.
  • If the foreign object has not managed to get out of the baby's mouth, you will have to repeat this process again until the ambulance arrives. It's very important to stay as calm as you can. If you aren't calm, you could be distracted from what you're doing, and unintentionally cause the baby more harm.
